ArcGIS Pro is now in pre-release and can be downloaded from My Esri. . This is a great chance to have a play with ArcGIS Pro ahead of its release (when you’ll be able to start using it in your production systems). You need to have an ArcGIS for Desktop license (in maintenance) and it will then show in the products list. If you haven’t used My Esri before there is guidance here, you might need to talk to your internal primary maintenance contact about getting access. Don’t forget to check the ArcGIS Pro system requirements first.
ArcGIS Pro has been designed to work as an integral part of the ArcGIS Platform, making it easy to share your GIS information via a Portal (either hosted in ArcGIS Online or on premise), and the licensing for ArcGIS Pro is managed through Portal*. You will need a Named User account and the administrator for your organisation will need to have allocated you a license. If you don’t yet have a Named User account don’t forget that you get an ArcGIS Online entitlement with ArcGIS for Desktop.
As long as you have been allocated a license, all you need to do is login using the appropriate user details when you open ArcGIS Pro the first time and it will validate the license. Not including the download time, I was up and running in less than an hour.

* The current version of Portal for ArcGIS doesn’t support Managing Licenses but a future release will.
